The outstanding commitment and achievements of adult volunteers from all over Notts have been honoured at an afternoon tea party given by Girlguiding Nottinghamshire. Held at Mansfield’s Portland College in October, the event saw County Commissioner Jackie Brocklehurst presenting awards to over 40 members and friends of Girlguiding in Nottinghamshire.
From Worksop Division, Joyce Woods was presented with a special Good Service award to celebrate her long-time involvement with Girlguiding Nottinghamshire’s Roughbreck campsite on the Welbeck Estate. There were also Long Service Awards for Helen Hindmarch (40 years) and Patricia Wright (30 years), while Richard Pogson was presented with the Nottinghamshire Star. A non-uniformed volunteer, Richard had been nominated by the whole of Worksop Division. “He is amazing and takes all that Girlguiding brings in his stride”, says his citation. “He’s a true Girlguiding champion!”
The busy afternoon of presentations included lots of Long Service Awards – representing a total of some 600 years of service – together with Oak Leaf Awards to 20 leaders and the Nottinghamshire Star to three non-uniformed volunteers in recognition of their outstanding support for local Guiding. Jackie also used the occasion to give personal Thanks badges, County Brooches and Good Service awards to individuals who have specially enriched the Guiding experience for girls across the county over the last year.
Jackie said: “It is an immense privilege to publicly celebrate such exceptional commitment from our volunteers. “Helping thousands of Notts youngsters get the most out of life is rewarding in so many ways. Of course, Girlguiding Nottinghamshire’s adult volunteers benefit enormously from the training, mentoring and experience we offer. But, as we’ve shown at this afternoon’s tea party, we also have great fun as well!”
Girlguiding Nottinghamshire is recruiting additional adult volunteers in order to open up more opportunities for friendship, fun and personal development to girls and young women all over the county.
