Elmton village welcomes visitors to the annual Well Dressing and National Gardens Scheme Open Gardens event on 29th and 30th June from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Five local gardens will be open over the weekend.
The village will be charity fundraising with various activities taking place including a brass band on Saturday, ukulele band on Sunday, plant sales, classic cars and stalls. There is also an exhibition by the Elmton and Creswell Historical Society in the church. Cream teas will be served in the refurbished Schoolroom adjacent to St Peter’s Church and food is served from 12.00pm, at the Elm Tree pub.
Elmton has been voted Best Small Village in East Midlands in Bloom six times since 2010, winning for the last four years consecutively and equal fifth in the Village category in the 2018 national Britain in Bloom finals.
The ancient craft of well dressing has taken place in Elmton for over 30 years and the village displays three well dressings. The theme this year is ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’.
Elmton has a long history dating back to prehistoric times and interpretation boards have been located at key points in the village highlighting features of interest including the recently restored Carriage House and Pinfold, the community orchard, and village green which is a haven for rare magnesian limestone plants.
Elmton is located 3km southwest of the A616 Sheffield to Newark road at Creswell; 2km east of the B6417 Pleasley to Clowne road, satnav S80 4LS.
