The Wednesday Memory Group

A very enjoyable reminder of the kind of music many listened to in the 50s came to the Wednesday Group in the shape of the Littleborough Skifflers.

Seeing the homemade double-bass being assembled from a tea chest, broom handle and length of cord brought back memories of amateur bands that were formed at school and were responsible for the rehabilitation of washboards and the disappearance from sewing boxes of any number of thimbles!

And what a talented group of musicians. Once they started to play, members were soon singing along and the more mobile members were up and jiving! One of the band members regularly brings his mother-in-law to the group and, very kindly, offered to play. It was a real treat.

Everyone loves music but to have such a range of talents as the Littleborough Skifflers, Jessica Brett, Retford Ukulele Group, Dave and Sandra and Frank the pianist all willing to play is something the group could only have dreamed of not so long ago. They are all much appreciated.

If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis, or you just want to know more and you think the Wednesday Group might be helpful, do get in touch.
