After the traumas of the past couple of years, this year seemed to get off to a good start for The Musicality Singers, with the choir getting back on form in January after the Christmas break. The accompanist, Jenni, secretly recorded the choir while they sang through one of their newest pieces (from ‘Les Mis’). When the recording was played back, they were delighted to hear how good it sounded. One chorister even said: “We sound like a real choir again.”
On another occasion, after some work on polishing an old favourite medley of songs, Greg, the musical director, was overjoyed with choir’s performance. A promising start to what should be a special year for The Musicality Singers: the choir is now 10 years old! Their 10th birthday fell in autumn of last year, but celebrations were not possible then because of restrictions. This year is also the 10th anniversary of Greg Watson becoming Musical Director; it will be a double celebration year.
You can expect some popular favourites from previous performances as part of the celebration (what you might call The Musicality Singers’ greatest hits) as well as new material that is currently being practised and polished.
And it’s just as well that the choir is back and in fine voice, as it already has a substantial programme of performances planned for the year. The first is a charity event at St John’s Church in Worksop on 2nd May. From then on, there are performances in Worksop, Shireoaks or Dinnington in most months until the end of the year.
Charity and community events figure prominently in the programme, but there will also be the return of the popular summer and Christmas concerts. The summer concert will be at Worksop Town Hall on 1st July, and the Christmas concert will be back at The Crossing in Worksop on 15th December. (You might want to make a note in your diary – remember it’s a double celebration year.)
