This summer, The Sherwood Forest Trust celebrates the 10-year anniversary of their Woodland Festival. With the past nine festivals being held in Sherwood Forest, the project has expanded and will move to the beautiful Walled Garden at Thoresby Park for the big anniversary this year on 15th and 16th June.
Originally established to be part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations after the nature reserve gained its Site of Special Scientific Interest status, thanks to the overwhelming positive public reception and feedback they are looking to continue the event and celebrate the international importance of the habitats and veteran trees in our woodlands, and support local crafters and makers, environmental charities, traders, businesses and artists.
The Sherwood Forest Trust Woodland Festival is focused on re-telling the story of the forest and how it has supported Nottinghamshire communities throughout the ages, linking their daily lives with its produce and products. It also looks to the future and the critical importance of trees and woodland for helping with climate change and biodiversity loss. The event is arguably more important now than ever before!
This is a wonderful family-friendly day out, where visitors can engage with the natural world, learn skills and crafts from local traders, and learn about local fauna and flora. The Woodland Festival is a fantastic event to generate community spirit and foster a sense of local pride and place.
