Looking after local’s hearts

Local couple Mick and Mavis Taylor (aged 77 and 76 respectively), have found help for their hearts at BPL site, Worksop Leisure Centre, after Mick recently suffered from a blocked coronary artery and needed cardiac rehabilitation.

After waking up with what he thought was indigestion, Mick underwent Echocardiogram and Angiogram examinations which revealed that he had a blocked coronary artery. He was advised to do cardiac rehabilitation exercises, and was referred to Worksop Leisure Centre for their Cardiac Rehabilitation Course.

After going with her husband for moral support and observing his improvement, Mavis was inspired to join a course herself and was referred by her doctor to the Exercise Course which is also at Worksop Leisure Centre.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Course has been designed and tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and aids them on their road to recovery. Patients are seen by clinicians who are expertly placed to deal with medical health problems, enabling them to take the steps required towards a normal life.

Run by qualified BACPR (British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation) instructors, the 12-week exercise program helps improve muscular strength as well as enhancing mobility and flexibility, and increasing energy and stamina levels.

Of BPL site Worksop Leisure Centre, Mick said, “We found the staff there most considerate and helpful, and they do their best to ensure that each participant works within their capabilities. We have both felt the benefit of partaking in controlled, supervised exercise and have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending anyone who considers that additional exercise would help to join the leisure centre.”
