The Committee of The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum bid farewell to the museum’s curator, Sam Glasswell, at their committee meeting in late September. After approximately 20 years in her role, Sam has decided to retire.

Sam was a leading force in the establishment and development of the Friends and has continued that support through both the good times and the hard times of the past 11 or so years. The Friends like to think that the relationship has been somewhat symbiotic as they have supported the museum both directly, though assisting with the purchase of specific items, and by partnering some funding bids.

The Committee marked Sam’s retirement with the presentation of a bouquet of flowers and wished Sam well in her retirement. Many of The Friends joined with Sam’s colleagues and other representatives of the Bassetlaw community at her retirement party later that month at the museum. The Friends are looking forward to meeting and working with the new curator in the coming months and years.

With the end of the year approaching, plans are in hand for the Friends’ pre-Christmas event on Saturday 7th December. Details are still being developed at the time of writing so put it in your diary and watch this space for further information. There have also been some early discussions about the possibility of re-introducing tours of the museum in 2025.
