Aurora Wellbeing Centre

by | 10 September 2024 | Health, Heritage, Local Charity, Worksop

In September 2021, the doors of the Old Library Building in Worksop were reopened after extensive refurbishment works by the Aurora Wellbeing Centres charity, supported by English Heritage Lottery funding. A lot has happened in the three years since! It is hoped that many people in Bassetlaw have had the opportunity to visit the centre and see what is on offer.

While the core objective is to provide support for those living with cancer or a long-term health condition, everyone – young and old – is encouraged to go along and enjoy the beautiful building. Whether it’s purchasing something from the charity shop, enjoying a slice of cake in Valerie’s Tearooms, or participating in the exercise classes, support groups, and recreational activities, there is something for everyone.

Spotlight on… Art Therapy and Object Encounters

As part of the Heritage programme, a fortnightly Art Club is open to all. For just £3.00 per session, participants can try different techniques and mediums, experiencing the therapeutic benefits of creating art. All materials and refreshments are included in the price.

A new activity in the Heritage Hub began last month: Object Encounters. This group allows participants to explore Worksop’s fascinating history through personal encounters with the heritage collection at Aurora. Join this informal group to discover the hidden stories behind the objects. The cost is £1.00 per session, including refreshments. The next session will be on Thursday 5th September, from 10.00am until 11.30am.

Fundraising at the Old Library Building

Aurora is keen to hear from anyone with fundraising ideas to help raise valuable funds. Whether it’s hosting a coffee morning at home, completing the Three Peaks Challenge, or organising an event in a local village hall, support and advice with advertising and marketing are available to help the event run smoothly. Please get in touch to discuss how Aurora can assist in organising your event. Email hospitality@aurorawellbeing.org.uk.
