Reflecting on the past year, The Dukeries Singers have much to celebrate. From outstanding performances to unforgettable moments, the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Recent concerts at Edwinstowe and Ollerton Community Halls were a resounding success. Audiences were captivated by the choir’s renditions of both classic and contemporary pieces, with many highlighting the performance of A Christmas Blessing as a standout moment. The energy and passion brought to the stage were palpable, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
The choir was also privileged to sing at several funerals recently, honouring the lives of those who had passed. One such occasion was particularly poignant on Monday 3rd February, when members sang at the funeral of long-standing choir member, Mrs Marilyn Twomey. It was a heartfelt tribute to a much-loved member of the choir, featuring her favourite ABBA songs and a special rendition of Hallelujah.
Throughout 2024, the choir achieved remarkable milestones.
Membership has grown, welcoming talented new voices that have enriched its sound. In addition, the choir is launching its first-ever musical workshop, providing members with the opportunity to develop new techniques and bond over their shared love of music.
Looking ahead, exciting plans are in place to further develop the choir. These include introducing a more diverse repertoire, collaborating with local artists, and increasing participation in community events. The goal is to ensure that every member enjoys the experience of being part of the choir.
Quotes from members:
“Being part of the choir has been an incredible journey. The camaraderie and the joy of singing together are unmatched.”
“I joined the choir to improve my singing but found a family. Every rehearsal is filled with laughter and learning.”
“I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
As the choir continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to the core values of excellence, enjoyment, and community. Here’s to another year of beautiful music and cherished memories.
