If you’re interested in the arts and have ever wondered about artists choosing to paint in the open air, then you may be interested in The Arts Society Dukeries’ last lecture this year. Join them on Wednesday 1st December and listen to details on the great Impressionist painters, their ideas and tips on how to really appreciate our landscape views.
Having returned to the Carlton in Lindrick Civic Centre, members can again meet together to listen to the talks and you are invited to go along to the Society’s meeting in December. Some members and guests may choose to wear a face mask for all or part of the meeting and socially distant seating will be available.
This lecture, on Wednesday 1st December, is called ‘Have Easel, Will Travel: Painting in the Open Air’. The speaker is Ghislaine Howard. Following the footsteps of Turner and Constable, Monet, Morisot and The Impressionists, look at how artists have tried to capture the vividness and power of a direct relationship with the landscape in front of them. The lecture will also show how the places we visit and the things we see, colour and form our lives. The speaker will share a number of fascinating ways in which we can all make the most of our travels to celebrate the rich patterns of experience that this can bring and will be making reference not only to travels in the UK and Europe, but also USA and Australia.
The Society meet at the Civic Centre, Long Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick S81 9AP. Tea / coffee and mince pies will be available from 10.00am and, following general notices at 10.50am, the lecture starts promptly at 11.00am to 12.00pm. There is free car parking. Guests are welcome for the payment of £7.00.
