Many people love to see cricket played through the summer months, and some believe that a club then ‘hibernates’ from October to April. Nothing can be further from reality.

These are the months when most of the work is done: planning, upgrading, training, making decisions for the future etc. This winter has been no exception with Edwinstowe Cricket Club. The Club has been a major social focus in the village for two centuries.

To confirm this, at the recent Annual General meeting, members unanimously agree to a fundamental name change. It will now be Edwinstowe Community Cricket Club. This reflects the diverse events and groups that call the facilities and surrounding area their home. The past year has seen Edwinstowe Running Club, Girls Play Sport, walks and tea, hub for Ukrainian Appeal, County Guides Association beacon lighting, Jubilee fun day and the core for the past centuries – cricket.

Already significant upgrades have been agreed to enhance the playing facilities, new sightscreens, new triple cylinder mower, reseeding of the outfield. Changes are being made inside the clubhouse too to make a more efficient and effect refreshment area for members and guests.

Through the off-season junior members have been representing the Club in county indoor competitions at under nine age group. Age groups have started indoor net coaching at Cuckney CC. To ensure the expansion of junior cricket can continue, more Club members have completed ECB accredited coaching courses. Congratulations to Maya Baldwin from the Club’s under-13 group who has been selected for the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club squad.

The Club will again be a centre for the ECB All Stars and Dynamos programme. All Stars (for four to seven year olds) will start on Sunday 14th May at 10.30am and Dynamos (for eight to 11 year olds) will start on Friday 12th May at 5.30pm. While junior numbers have increased, all new players are always welcome.
