Marie Curie
Lions UK has teamed up with Marie Curie and Morrison’s nationwide, resuming collections outside their supermarkets, giving daffodils and wearing cute daffodil hats!
They will be collecting for Marie Curie at Morrison’s Mansfield Woodhouse from 18th to 20th March; all donations gratefully received. If you wish to donate separately, please contact Bob (number at bottom of article). 100% of the donations will go to Marie Curie.
Bee Humble
In previous editions we have seen how the Lions helped Bee Humble with their Christmas preparations for the homeless in Mansfield.
Lesley and David visited again to give the Lions some feedback on how it all went. They described a tremendous success, being able to feed the homeless properly at Christmas with £50.00 left over. They offered to return this money, but the Lions agreed it should stay with Bee Humble.
The Lions also donated sleeping bags, winter coats and jumpers to be handed out to the homeless. If you have any suitable clothing etc to help Bee Humble, please contact Bob.
Ollerton and Boughton Age Concern Friendship Club
The Lions are again pleased help Ollerton and Boughton Age Concern take its members on a trip – possibly to the seaside. These last two years have been particularly difficult for the members.
This club meets each week on Friday mornings at the Ollerton Town Hall and is for the older people of Ollerton and Boughton. It offers a warm welcome, a friendly chat and amiable companionship. Please contact Anne (07826 601010) or Margaret (01623 836993) for more information.
Other causes
The Lions are still working with Specsavers at Sutton in Ashfield and Newark and have recently sent nearly 20kg of spectacles to under-privileged countries. They would like to issue a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who gave to this wonderful project; if you have any unwanted spectacles, please contact Bob (cases not required).
The Club recently helped Parkgate School, Ollerton, in its quest to get a defibrillator situated outside the school premises.
Dedicated litter pickers in the area are doing their best to keep the village clean and tidy. With safety paramount, the Lions voted unanimously to approve their request to supply two ‘Persons at Work’ signs so motorists are aware of their presence.
Casino Nights
One of the Lions’ most successful nights for various clubs, companies, and organisations is the casino evening, where members turn up dressed for the occasion, supply all the regular casino games with lots of funny money and run the entire evening. Please contact Bob if you’re interested. The group does charge a small fee, which goes into group funds.
The Lions come in all shapes and sizes, young and not so young, all with the same goal: to help the less fortunate in the community. They take their role very seriously, but aim to have a lot of fun in the process! If you would like to find out more, please contact Bob on 07815 473802 or visit the South Forest Leisure Centre, Edwinstowe, NG21 9JA every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
