Santa is on his way
Santa has been to see Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club recently and gave massive thumbs up to the new sleigh. He put the finishing touches of paint to it and says he is looking forward to occupying it around the streets of Edwinstowe, Walesby, Clipstone, Bilsthorpe, Ollerton and Boughton this December.
Santa and his Elves will visit:
• Wednesday 1st December, 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Walesby
• Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th December, 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Bilsthorpe
• Wednesday 7th to Saturday 11th December, 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Edwinstowe
• Monday 13th to Thursday 16th December plus Monday 20th December, 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Ollerton
• Tuesday 21st December: Clipstone
Check out Edwinstowe and The Dukeries Lions’ Facebook page for the routes. Santa will definitely be at Tesco Ollerton on Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th December. Go and say hello to him.
Massive thanks go to Groundwork (Tesco), Thoresby Charitable Trust, Redfern Travel and The Academy Transformation Trust Further Education College for making this possible.
The club are only a small group of Lions and are trying to do as much as possible, so if they are not visiting your actual street then please find him in your village.
If anyone would like to help Santa then please contact Bob on 07815 473802. They do really have a lot of fun as well as putting smiles on a lot of children’s faces.

Bee humble
The Lions invited to their meeting Lesley and David who, with friends and colleagues, formed a group named Bee Humble. They feed the homeless in the Mansfield area (approximately 50 people) at weekends when no one else is available to do this. They give them a warm meal and friends and colleagues often raid their own larders and fridges to feed them.
They came to the club only asking for £100 so they could prepare for Christmas on three weekends, culminating in the New Year weekend. Lesley and David were so humble and dedicated to this cause and did not makie any judgements on who came for food. They also serve ‘soul food’ and this is dished out with lots of love, patience and understanding.
The Lions gave them £300 – and Lesley left the room crying, knowing she and her colleagues could give these people a warm Christmas. If you have food you would like to donate to Bee Humble please contact Bob on 07815 473802.
Parkgate School and ROAR 2021
The Lions and Parkgate School Ollerton have come together to work on a project called ROAR 2021. ROAR is designed to help the children with their PHSE education. It is, however, much more than that! Children are challenged to come up with ideas that could change the world for the better. At this moment groups are working on their ideas and are due to give a presentation, show models of how it will work or happen and make a video.
One group chosen by the Lions and staff at the school will go on to a national final. All pupils will receive a medal and a massive thank you from the Lions.
GymStarz
It was unanimously agreed to donate £250 to help GymStarz equip their kitchen area so they then will be able to raise funds for themselves. The club were impressed by their determination. They cater for Gymnastics 4 All, FreeG, Artistic, TeamGym, Gymfit, Tumbling and Acrobatics for girls and boys aged five upwards; and all their sessions are disability inclusive. Their mission is to attempt to instil a lifelong appreciation of movement, exercise and sport, to teach children the rewards and qualities of dedication and hard work. Check out their website.
Specsavers
The Edwinstowe and The Dukeries Lions have partnered with Specsavers Sutton in Ashfield to collect used glasses so they can be made available in countries where this service is not available. There is a tub in the shop where you can place them or contact Bob on 07815 473802 to arrange collection or delivery.
Dawn House School
The Club are proud to have donated over £250 worth of books and games to the Dawn House School, plus the Lions’ very own Wild Tribe Books which tell stories of how to save the planet. Dawn House School is in Rainworth and is a specialist school run by the charity I CAN for children with severe or complex communication difficulties or Asperger’s Syndrome.
The above is just a small portion of what the Lions do in your community and to be able to do so they rely on donations, especially at Christmas. Please approach them with Santa and give as much as you possibly can. They are so grateful and then we will carry on helping the community in many ways.
If you wish to be a part of what they do then contact Robert on 07815 473802 for a chat or go along to one of their meetings at The South Forest Leisure Centre, Edwinstowe, every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
