The New Year is a time of reflection as well as a time of looking forward, and so it is for the Dukeries u3a.. Recently, the Acting Chairperson, Barbara Baglee, was pleased to award Honorary Membership status to one of the group’s most popular and respected ladies, Christine Yates, whose years of voluntary, dedicated service, especially in running and coordinating u3a Activity Groups, are second to none.

A very successful Quiz Night was held at the Jubilee Hall in Ollerton. Thirteen tables of players scratched their collective heads at a goodly range of intriguing questions, but, in the end, there could only be one winner – Georgina Batty and her team.

‘Group of the Month’ this time is the All Sorts Crafts and Gardening Group. In November, Sue North gave a demonstration of flower arrangements designed for the festive season. New members are always welcome so, if interested, why not give the Group Leaders, Christine Yates (01623 422113) or Jane Young (07980 378979) a ring?

Looking ahead, there are already lots of plans afoot, including a trip to Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, near Doncaster, in May; a potential visit to Trent Bridge to see how one of the country’s best loved and iconic sporting venues is being sympathetically upgraded, and a Beetle Drive in February. Why not make joining the Dukeries U3A one of your resolutions for the New Year?
