Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s theme is Marvellous Makers and the starting date is Saturday 6th July.

Children taking part can discover new stories, join in with free activities at the library and explore their creativity – from junk modelling to music, dance to drawing and painting. The Summer Reading Challenge aims to build confidence in young readers and keep their reading up during the school holidays.

They will need to borrow and read six books from the library over the summer to participate in the challenge. Children can read any books they like – from chapter books, comics or even information books.
Collect stickers on your reading journey! When participants complete the challenge, they will receive a special certificate, medal and they will be entered into a prize draw. The badge machine will be there through the week of 8th July for the Challenge Launch – pop along and make your own badge!

The library will also be running Marvellous Maker’s themed activities and crafts throughout summer so drop in anytime they are open or check their Facebook page. On 12th July there will be Rock Painting – start looking for the perfect rock or pebble now!

The Dogs Trust will be there on 12th August, 11.00am to 12.00pm, to run a free family workshop about staying safe around dogs, and keeping our furry friends happy and healthy. The workshop includes activities, crafts and games. Please book either with the library or at alison.jacques@dogstrust.org.uk.

Dukeries Library is in the Dukeries Academy; just press the buzzer on the front gate at the Whinney Lane entrance and reception staff will let you in. Its opening hours (term time only) are:
