Citizens Advice celebrates anniversary

by | 5 October 2024 | Citizens Advice, Sherwood

September marked a milestone in Citizens Advice’s story – 85 years of service to the community. In the past 85 years they’ve helped millions of people with millions of problems and been there by the side of people when they need them most.

Citizens Advice was set up in 1939 in the days after the start of World War II as a new nationwide advisory service which would help people navigate the uncertainty, chaos and challenges of life during wartime. They advised people on rations, national service, evacuations and more. In 1941 their first mobile advice service, The Horsebox, hit the road to reach areas affected by the Blitz.

Lots has changed over the last 85 years, but their purpose hasn’t. Jackie Insley, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Central Notts, said: “Since our founding in 1939, Citizens Advice has been a beacon of hope and support for millions of people across the UK.

“What started as a response to the challenges of war has grown into a vital service that addresses the diverse needs of our communities. This anniversary is a testament to the enduring impact of our work and the unwavering commitment of our staff and volunteers. We continue to support the local community through our service.”
