Like most people, Michael Dickinson and Brian Hawkins had plans for 2020. They intended embarking on a series of walks to raise funds for The John Eastwood Hospice. Events overtook all of our plans, including theirs.
When the COVID-19 lockdown came into force in March they resigned themselves to doing as we had been asked and remaining at home shielding for our own health and to do our part in protecting the NHS. Little did they realise that a challenge set by a friend, to walk one million steps at home, would result in such amazing support and generosity. Not only have they walked the initial one million steps, they have both gone on to walk over two million steps each at their respective homes.
Fortunately, they both have good understanding neighbours who will no doubt have seen them on their daily circuits and have embraced their endeavours (although at times they must have looked like caged animals in a zoo enclosure constantly walking up and down!). In fact, it gave them a purpose and an incentive which has helped them through the restrictions.
Brian and Michael would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has supported them in raising £17,723.00 to date. It isn’t too late to add your support / donation on their Just Giving page – www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bigbrian.
