On recent visits to the Major Oak Medical Practice in Edwinstowe, patients will have noticed the new look TV call screen. New software enables more health information to be displayed and dispenses with the need for numerous posters. It is anticipated that patients may feel better informed as posters can be overlooked. Your Patient Participation Group (PPG) has been pressing for the improved screen information for some time.
Sadly, the practice had to take the decision to lock the surgery door in common with most practices, as patients were visiting for unnecessary reasons during the pandemic. An intercom system will be used to call patients to meet their appointment.
Did Not Attend Appointments is still an issue for the practice: a snapshot of three months at the end of 2020, covering GPs, nurses and the physiotherapist, totaled 130 appointments not attended. That is over 22 hours wasted, apart from the cost to our NHS. If you don’t cancel your appointment when no longer needed, you could be depriving another patient of a chance of an appointment in your place. Patients can play their part to aid the smooth running of the practice.
Please don’t feel that you should not contact the surgery because of the pandemic – the practice is keen to ensure that serious illness diagnosis is not missed.
