Winthrop has an exciting programme of events for 2023: Vintage Afternoon Teas to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, Ladies Day in June, Yorkshire Day in August and a series of festive events already planned for November and December!
Saturday 29th April, 11.00am to 4.00pm
The Great Winthrop Bake Off
Held at Winthrop Gardens, Second Lane, Wickersley, S66 1EE, this is one of the Garden’s most popular events of the year!
There will be two age bands – over 14s and under 14s – and four categories: cakes, scones and biscuits, buns or cupcakes and preserves.
Visitors can view and then taste the entries!
There will be lots of other things going on as well – plant sales, tombola, crafts, ‘Curiosity Corner’ – and of course – the beautiful gardens.
Wednesday 3rd May, 2.15pm
An Afternoon Tea Fit For a King
Get yourself into the Coronation mood as people come together at Wickersley Community Centre to celebrate the accession and coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
A great opportunity to get the red, white and blue outfits out again!
Places can be reserved by calling 07397 039226 and payment made in cash, in full at Winthrop Gardens to confirm your place. Tickets cost £15.00 per person.
Volunteering at Winthrop
Winthrop is fortunate to have a really great team of volunteers – working hard in the gardens, café and allotment, and also supporting a range of other activities such as the weekly craft class and walking group and the twice-monthly memory café.
There are also volunteers doing home baking and crafting. So – a variety of ways in which to get involved!
As we approach the better weather when the Gardens get busier, they are looking to grow the Café Team – so please get in touch if you’d like to join the team.
They are also looking to recruit a couple of ’home bakers’ to ensure a selection of homemade cakes available for customers. Lots of people love baking but don’t because the temptation to eat them is too great; bake for Winthrop and they can solve that problem for you!
There is a bit of paperwork to sort out and a process to go through but if you are interested please get in touch to find out more. It could be one cake a month or two or three a week – and they will reimburse you for the cost of the ingredients.
No particular experience is required to volunteer as they will always help you learn the ropes – but energy and enthusiasm are key!
If you are interested, please call Anna Chester on 07397 039226 or email winthropgardens1@gmail.com.
