Open Arms Community Support Hub
Open Arms, a community-based support project, has been offering cost-of-living assistance and a welcoming environment for residents of Rotherham for nearly two years. Delivered through fortnightly drop-in sessions at ten locations across the borough, the project has served over 2,000 individuals.
Open Arms is a collaborative effort funded by Rotherham Council, Rotherham Federation of Communities, Citizens Advice Rotherham and District, LASER Credit Union, and Voluntary Action Rotherham.
Free support services
The project offers a range of free services to help residents manage the rising cost of living:
- Face-to-face appointments with Citizens Advice Rotherham and District advisors
- Mobile membership opportunities with LASER Credit Union, a local non-profit financial enterprise
- Practical advice on budgeting, energy saving tips, and improving digital skills.
Community get togethers
Beyond support services, Open Arms recognises the importance of social connection. Non-library venues host community get-togethers featuring free inclusive activities and refreshments. These sessions are registered with the Warm Welcome Spaces initiative, providing a sense of belonging and connection within the community. See www.warmwelcome.uk.
