Eight years ago, Kathy, a Freelance Community Consultant. started doing Superjam Tea Parties in Barnsley and six years ago launched Friendship Lunches in Barnsley and Sheffield.
Locally, the Friendship Lunch at the Manor Barn, Church Street, Kimberworth is proving to be a huge success. This is held on the last Wednesday of the month at 12.00pm to 2.00pm; tickets are just £10.00 and include a delicious two-course lunch and live entertainment. Upcoming dates include 30th March, 27th April, 25th May and 29th June. To book, please call 01709 551089.
The events undoubtedly give people something to look forward to, something to get dressed up for and a wonderful opportunity to meet old (and make new) friends, to socialise, to dine, to have a dance and to swap telephone numbers. They are also ‘dementia friendly’ and therefore ideal for those living with dementia and their families / carers, offering invaluable respite.
Kathy says that her favourite event celebrated Westfield Health’s Centenary. The words spoken by then Chairman of Westfield Health and now Honorary Lifetime President, Graham Moore, then High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, John Pickering, and then Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Tony Downing, were undoubtedly pertinent then and even more so during the pandemic. The celebration was in October 2019 and all attending had no idea what was just around the corner.
Kathy is rightly proud of these enjoyable events, and to see how they are encouraging other people to set up similar events elsewhere. Having worked for HSBC for 34 years, she left voluntarily for a career in the care sector eight years ago and has never looked back. She says that her career is certainly very different from banking, but hugely enjoyable and extremely rewarding.
