Here’s what’s happening in our area to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee:
Rotherham
To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years of service, there are lots of Platinum Jubilee themed events taking place across Rotherham.
Everyone’s invited to A Right Royal Celebration in Rotherham town centre from Thursday 2nd until Saturday 4th June for an Outdoor Photographic Exhibition, celebrating Royal visits and occasions in Rotherham, plus great entertainment throughout each day. Then, on Sunday 5th June, pack up your picnic and head to Clifton Park for brilliant live entertainment and loads of fun to enjoy with family and friends from 11.00am until 4.00pm, as part of The Big Jubilee Lunch. Onsite food outlets will be open and serving tasty treats throughout the day too!
Braithwell
As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, there will be a fun day at the Ruddle Centre in Braithwell on Friday 3rd June from 10.00am to 6.00pm. The star attraction will be helicopter rides available throughout the day!
There will be something for all age groups, with interactive events such as traditional egg and spoon, sack and three-legged races, a baking competition open to all, live entertainment throughout the day, and the recently restored Crown Bowling Green will be open for all to try, whether you are an experienced player or a complete novice! There will be a good selection of bowls for anyone to borrow to try their hand.
There will be a traditional tombola for anyone fancying a little flutter, and a coconut shy for the competitive ones out there! For refreshments, hog roast, pizzas and burgers will be available to purchase, along with traditional ice creams, tea, coffee and cakes, and a newly refurbished licensed bar will be open for the duration of the event.
People will be invited to try their hand at team games such as tug-of-war and rounders, and bring out the creative side of our younger generation with a children’s fancy dress competition. All proceeds from the event will be fed back into local charities. Please look on Facebook – ‘Braithwell with Micklebring Platinum Jubilee Fun Day’ pages for regular updates.
Running alongside the Fun Day, and throughout the Jubilee weekend, the Braithwell and Micklebring Historical Society will be hosting an exhibition at the Master’s House in Braithwell, depicting life and events in these villages throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. They will be serving refreshments on site.
Please join in celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime event – all are welcome!
Bramley
Bramley Parish Council is liaising with the three schools in the village to fund a Street Party in each school.
On Sunday 5th June a Civic Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s Reign will be held in St Francis’ Church. Details will be published on the church and Parish Council Facebook pages. In addition, the village centre will be decorated for the Jubilee weekend.
In September, the Parish Council has invited local schools join them in planting an avenue of flowering cherry trees along the footpath at the bottom of the playing fields on Flash Lane, as a lasting symbol of the Jubilee.
