The Arts Society Dukeries
Do you have an interest in the arts? Then join The Arts Society Dukeries, a local National Arts Society Association group. Usually, they have monthly lecture meetings at the Civic Centre, Carlton, two extra Special Interest Days, trips out to places of interest, newsletters, a national magazine and a holiday for members.
As their normal meetings cannot take place during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are continuing to offer their members a varied program of arts and lectures by Zoom technology. These are arranged until the summer, though the speakers concerned could attend in person, should the group be able to meet back at the Civic Centre, Carlton.
Their morning lectures, which last for approximately one hour, are open to non-members who are invited to contact them to join in and watch for a small fee. Their next lecture is:
Chinamania – the impact of Chinese porcelain on European taste, collecting and display
Wednesday 3rd February, 10.30am for 11.00am start
When the very first Chinese porcelains found their way to Europe, their beauty and fragility led to a widespread fashion for housing and displaying collections of Chinese ‘blue-and-white’ and spawned a whole range of European imitations.
Their lecture on Wednesday 3rd March at 11.00am is called ‘Undressing Antiques’.
