Rush House

Rush House Ltd is a registered charity established in Rotherham in 1982 in response to the increasing level of homelessness amongst young people. What started as a six-bed hostel providing little but a roof over clients’ heads, has grown and developed over the years to become a range of accommodation and support services to meet the needs of those most vulnerable and chaotic young people in our society who have often had enough adversity in their childhood to last a lifetime.

One of their core values at Rush is ‘belief of change’, acknowledging and recognising that whatever adversity you have been faced with in your life, with the right support, a positive attitude and the right skills you can and will achieve.

Their offer now includes a 30-bed supported accommodation service providing supported accommodation and life skills training to vulnerable, homeless young people aged 16 to 25 (including care leavers). They offer high quality, fully furnished accommodation across the Rotherham Borough with access to highly skilled 24-7 staff support, as well as intensive 1:1 support offered by their keyworking team. Their aim is to empower and equip young people with the knowledge and skills to live independently and become contributing members of their community.

Supporting Rush House to achieve this is their A Place of Your Own online pre-tenancy programme which offers a practical eight-part programme providing information, advice and guidance to young people on everything they need to know to successfully acquire and manage their own tenancy. They also offer their incredibly successful Brighter Futures service which provides holistic, person centred support to those who may otherwise struggle to enter their chosen path to education, training and employment, This service is open to anyone 16+ in the Rotherham area who needs that support to achieve their goals.

As a small, non-profit organisation, cash donations can make a massive impact to their vulnerable young people and provide them with opportunities they would otherwise miss. If you think you can help Rush, you can make cash donations via their website: www.rushhouse.co.uk/support-us/donate/.

For other donations please contact them on 01709 369295 and help them empower all to be happy, healthy and safe!

Ways you could help

  • Donations of arts and crafts materials as they use these on an almost daily basis to support accommodated young people to keep themselves occupied and creative.
  • Donations of ‘wellbeing’ items such as notebooks for journaling, face packs, massage oils, hair masks etc
  • Donations of items to make up their ‘welcome packs’ for those moving into their service:
  • Toothpaste / toothbrushes
  • Shampoos and conditioners
  • Shower gels / bath bombs etc
  • Reed diffusers
  • Mugs / tea / coffee sachets
  • Deodorants
  • Facecloths / loofahs / shower puffs
  • Donations of good quality second hand bikes that Rush can pass on to those accommodated across Rotherham so that they can easily move around their new area and still easily access their support networks,
