Retford U3A

by | 25 October 2019 | Education and Learning, Retford, U3A

Retford U3A has been running now for eight years. There are around 600 members and 50 interest groups. There is a group meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month.
The speaker in May will be Neil Bennison, who in 2017 was the winner of the Concert Hall Manager of the Year Award.

On acceptance, Neil dedicated the award to Nottingham Classics concert-goers. Neil joined the Nottinghamshire Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall in 2008 as the Music Programme Manager. Since then, Neil has built up relationships with a number of orchestras. His talk will be really fascinating, and the U3A is expecting a high turnout of members.

The featured interest group, this month is Retford’s Cycling Group. It has now been successfully running for just over a year, and is lead by the very enthusiastic Vernon Davis. The group meets four times a month. Off-road riding at places like Clumber Park, takes place on the second and fourth Mondays and road riding takes place on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.

The ethos of the U3A, which stands for The University of the Third Age, is that we keep ourselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared experiences.
