After a short break, Retford Men’s Probus Club met on Friday 5th April to hear President George Teasdale’s talk ‘On The Face Of It’.
This was a very interesting account of the mining industry over the years and with special attention to the number of deaths and incidents which occurred underground and the dangers the miners faced whilst doing a job they loved. The talk highlighted some major disasters in the industry and the effect on the communities as a whole. A very sad but very informative session, depicting the comradery amongst the mining communities which still exist today!
