A cheque presentation took place in Sheffield in early October, from Retford Lions Club to Sheffield Sick Children Trust – Home from Home at Tree Tops House. Any child in the Retford area needing intensive / critical care, would probably be placed at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The charity gives the families with a sick child in hospital one less thing to worry about, by giving them a place to stay, and someone to talk to, all free of charge and minutes from their child’s bedside.
The charity is working towards a future in which every family, with a seriously ill child in hospital, can stay together close to the bedside of their child. They have two locations: Treetop House and Magnolia House.
Lions get many requests from local groups for help, and one of the more interesting ones was from Retford Lifesavers Club, who wanted help towards attending the World Championships in their sport. Lions are pleased that they did it, and in some style, achieving two gold medals, two silver and one bronze together with 15 top ten placings and 38 personal bests. The club membership has flourished since returning, and is going from strength to strength. Lions are proud to have been sponsors.
