Retford Lions Club

A breezy yet mainly fine day saw another successful golf tournament organised by Retford Lion Pete Masters.

Retford Golf Club hosted the Ted Waterfield Memorial tournament on 5th July. 30 teams navigated the course and helped to raise a considerable amount in aid of Bassetlaw Hospice and Macmillan Nurses.

Holes were sponsored by local companies and the club is grateful to them for their support. The club wished to thank the team at the Golf Club, led by Craig, for their continued help and support.

The latest fundraising venture will be held at Clarborough Village Hall on Saturday 9th September, where all the fun of the races can be found. There will be a slight twist, however – no films will be shown and the races will be held in an unusual way!

Members of the public are invited and entrance fees will include a pie and peas supper. Tickets are available from any member or from Bob on 07815 473802.

Lions are grateful to our sponsors for their continued support and particularly main event sponsor Trans-Sport Ltd of Treswell. In every race there will be opportunities to be an owner, trainer or jockey, so why not come along for a fun evening?

At a Charter Luncheon on 2nd July the new Lion President Margaret Campbell was installed. Her term will run until July 2024.

Margaret is one of the longest-serving members of the club and was honoured last year with Lions’ highest award – a Melvin Jones Fellowship. She brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be well supported by husband Colin, who was a former Charter member back in 1980.
