Retford Art Society had a busy July, concluding with an informative workshop by Paul Talbot on using light and shade in watercolour paintings. Members made the most of the summer weather throughout August, capturing the beauty of the countryside, and several paintings are currently in progress. Anyone interested in joining the outdoor painting group can contact Retford Art Society at retfordartsociety@yahoo.com for more information.

This month, Brian Nelson will lead a demonstration on ‘Encaustic’ painting. This technique involves using wax and heat from an iron to create unique effects, and attendees will have the opportunity to try it themselves. Brian Nelson operates a studio at Elsecar Heritage Centre.

To book a place, please contact Jill at 01777 248285 or walkerjilly@outlook.com. The demonstration will take place in the Swan Studio, located at the bottom of Carolgate, through the archway, and past the bike shop.

Life drawing sessions will continue in the Swan Studio on Wednesdays 11th and 25th September, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The cost for non-members is £7.00.

The Swan Studio is also open for communal painting on Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and Friday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, free of charge. Newcomers are welcome and will receive support and encouragement. The Swan Studio is situated at the bottom of Carolgate, through the archway, and over the bike shop.
