Retford Station Book Swap
North Notts and Lincolnshire Community Rail Partnership is delighted to announce that a Book Swap has now been installed in the platform one waiting room at Retford Station. Feel free to take a book to read on your journey, swap a book you own for another, or simply drop a book you’ve finished with for someone else to enjoy.
Retford Station Garden
Friends of Retford Station have reached an agreement with LNER to make use of a neglected but enclosed area of ground near Retford Station. The area (11ft x 59 ft) is behind a locked gate (access via LNER) and the project will need the site clearing; a realistic vision for how it can be transformed into a thing of beauty; and a small team of occasional volunteers. Interested? There’s no pay for this activity, but financial support from the Community Rail Network and other local businesses and groups will be generally available for relevant project expenses. Please contact the Friends of Retford Station either by turning up (in the Costa on platform one) to find out more on any Wednesday morning between 10.00am and 11.00am, or email friendsofretfordstation@gmail.com.
Increased services to London
Hull Trains have increased their passenger capacity by doubling their trains from five carriages up to 10 on several services, targeting busy times such as peak morning and evening services at certain times of the week, including Sundays, creating almost 4,000 additional seats per week. It has also been announced that the FirstGroup has submitted proposals to run a London – Sheffield service, via the East Coast Main Line, comprising of two return journeys a day from London King’s Cross non-stop to Retford, then calling at Worksop, Woodhouse and Sheffield. The first phase of an application has been submitted, and the Community Rail Partnership watch for developments with interest.
