Autumn brings the Inner Wheel Club back into action mode. Heather Reid is now the club’s international officer. A Friday market stall was organised to raise funds. A rota of helpers assisted. On the day, just over £300 was raised. Carol Lawrenson took items to a car boot sale and her efforts raised a further £50.00, which was added to the general fund. All left over items were donated to Babworth Animal Rescue and to the Salvation Army in Gainsborough. The members are always grateful to the husbands who help out.
Some of the money raised will go towards the club’s Baby Bundles expenditure and the charity Help Flush Away Poverty, which provides toilets in areas desperately in need of sanitation — along with the toilets, standpipes are provided for hand washing and hygiene.
The District Chairman, Linda Elkin, visited the club this time and she gave some insight into her background and career in insurance and banking. She reminded members of the theme this year, ‘Try Something Different, but Have Fun Doing It’. Linda also said clubs must move forward and encourage new members, but at the same time not to forget their history. Happily, they welcomed a new member at this meeting.

In this centenary year, marking the end of the First World War, as a tribute from Inner Wheel, the Retford club is proposing to plant a tree in King’s Park for Remembrance and in recognition of the service and sacrifice of so many. Members hope to raise funds for this purpose by holding a Coffee Morning on Friday 26th October at the home of one of their members.
As a result of Retford Life magazine publishing its news, the club has gained extra knitting for its Baby Bundles. The club is very grateful. Every item given goes to those in desperate need. Thank you.
