Hadrian’s Wall charity walk

by | 16 March 2025 | Local Charity, Notice, Retford

A local group of friends and family from Retford warmly invites you to support their trek across the 84 miles that encompass historic Hadrian’s Wall, to raise money and awareness for the Doncaster-based charity ‘Living Beyond Mouth Cancer’, a sub-charity of Doncaster Hospital. Founded in 2018 by Muzzammil Nusrath and members of his team at Doncaster Hospital, Living Beyond Mouth Cancer aims to support patients and their families across Bassetlaw, South Yorkshire and the wider world through the challenges of fighting mouth cancer.

The group of six would-be Hadrian’s Wall wanderers and their animal companions have been inspired to undertake the charitable endeavour to support Bassetlaw resident Nathan Sharpe. Some residents may know Nathan as a member of local band Propellor, or for his family’s former ownership of Gauntley’s Country Store in Dunham-on-Trent. Since his diagnosis in April 2024, Nathan has gone through the tumultuous journey of surviving saliva gland cancer, although happily he is now cancer-free. Nathan, hoping to turn a negative life experience into a positive one with support from friends and family, has decided to conquer the walk along Hadrian Wall just as he conquered cancer, all to give back to the charity founded by the team that saved his life.

The group will commence their walk from Bowness-on-Solway, Cumbria, on 30th August 2025, and aim to conclude their ramble six days later at Wallsend, Tyne-on-Wear, on 5th September.
If you would like to learn more about Living Beyond Mouth Cancer, or would like to get involved with the charity, then you can find them on Facebook, simply search ‘Living Beyond Mouth Cancer’.

If you would like to donate to the walk, then a platform for individual donations will be set up very shortly. Stay tuned to Living Beyond Mouth Cancer’s Facebook page for further updates.

In addition to individual donations, the group would be partial to the patronage of any local businesses that would be willing to sponsor the walk. Particularly, they would be grateful for the donation of any items or experiences that could be auctioned or raffled to raise further charitable funds. Any sponsors will have their business’ name printed on the shirts worn by the group during the walk. Sponsorship enquiries should be directed towards LBMCHadriansWallSponsors@gmail.com.
