With most of us having had the time recently to be out and about on a few country walks, it’s always very satisfying to stay indoors on a cold winter’s day and experiment with some of your foraging free finds.
Feathers may have been collected and grouped together in a few seasonal arrangements in bottles, jugs etc from walks. Retford Textiles Group members would have a tendency to take this one stage further and try to incorporate them into their work.
They would strongly recommend killing off any nasties by placing feathers in a plastic bag in the freezer for at least 48 hours and using plastic gloves with any road kill finds.
Stitching or binding in groups with wax bookbinders thread (commonly available in craft shops) gives some lovely natural results. Adding metal buttons, tweed fabrics, velvets etc will all improve the finished result and enhance that country feeling to any design idea.
