East Markham WI

by | 9 January 2024 | Retford, Social Group, WI

There was a very good turnout for the November meeting of East Markham WI, when President Alena welcomed members and visitors to a Craft and Social Evening.

Business was kept short, with notices of future County events, including the popular Literary Lunch and the Annual Federation Meeting, both in March 2024. The raffle in aid of Retford Food Bank raised £108.

Crafting then commenced with a range of sewing and paper crafts, with all materials provided. There were small stuffed baubles, felt stars, hearts and Christmas trees to sew and decorate, fabric Christmas Trees to stuff and decorate and Christmas-themed origami projects, plus a wide range of embellishments.

The results of members’ efforts were amazing and they went home with at least one crafted item. Photos can be seen on the group’s Facebook page – search ‘East Markham WI’.

December was Christmas Party time. With the hall and tables suitably decorated, members were served a welcome drink before Pie and Peas and a selection of desserts.

Entertainment was of the homemade variety: there was a Christmas-themed table quiz with a prize for the winning table, followed by the appropriately dressed Committee performing a fun version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, which created much laughter. Thanks to Louise for being the vocalist!

There was a Secret Santa and other party games plus a selection of festive music for singing and / or dancing.

On 16th January the guest speaker will be Sue Burton, with her talk and demonstration ‘Looking Good with Colour’. Sue is an experienced stylist who aims to show how wearing colours suited to one’s own colouring, can boost confidence and make clothes shopping easier.
