There is plenty going on this Christmas at Cath Ray Gallery, which stays open until Saturday 23rd December. As well as the current exhibition of Nicola Davison Reed’s photographs, there is an exhibition of ‘After-school Art’ from children who attend classes at the gallery and a number of special openings and events planned.
On Saturday 2nd December, Small Business Saturday, the gallery will be open as normal from 10.00am to 5.30pm for people to shop for unique and unusual presents. The gallery will also be open in the evening of Thursday 14th December, 4.30pm to 8.00pm, for the town’s Late Night Christmas Shopping event where people can shop for last-minute cards and gifts and enjoy mulled cider and Christmas shortbread to celebrate the year at the gallery.
The last event of the year will be a Charity Art Auction organised by Ginnie, Linda, and Julia raising money for Bassetlaw Food Bank, on Friday 29th December. The ladies have been busy for months collecting donated work from artists, framing it and organising the evening where over 100 artworks will be available to take home.
Guests will be given a tour of the pictures and then over a glass or two of wine they will have the chance to place their bids next to the artworks they like (bids start from £5.00) and to keep on adding higher bids if somebody else trumps theirs.
It sounds like a lot of fun and will hopefully raise a substantial amount of money for the food bank at this difficult time of year. The evening starts from 6.30pm and everyone is welcome.
The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10.00am to 5.00pm (2.00pm on Tuesdays). It is located at 58b Bridgegate, Retford, DN22 7UZ.
