Bassetlaw Twinning Association

The Bassetlaw Twinning Association (BTA) has been active this year after a break during the COVID restrictions. This self-funded group promotes international links, especially with Bassetlaw’s twin towns in France and Germany. Members host families in their own homes and enjoying staying in the homes of their European friends, as well as visiting the respective local areas.

This year they welcomed guests from Aurillac, France. Guests had a great time visiting Sherwood Forest, Creswell Crags and the Sculpture Park, and enjoyed a wonderful windy walk in the Peak District before a visit to the Trek Cliff Cavern to see the Blue John.

They joined up with the Bassetlaw Petanque Group and enjoyed some very competitive games while learning the real rules of the game! There have also been several informal visits with members from twin towns visiting each other; it is good to see short visits leading to long-term friendships.

In the spring BTA is expecting to host members from the German twin town Pfungstadt, during which time both towns will be celebrating the 45th anniversary of twinning. A group from Worksop will be travelling to Pfungstadt later in the year and will enjoy the German hospitality.

BTA’s AGM is on Wednesday 31st January at 7.00pm in Worksop Town Hall. Light refreshments will be available and after the business meeting there will be an illustrated talk by two BTA members talking about their bicycle trip through France to visit Aurillac.

New members are welcome; contact Pat Durrant on 01909 486499 / 07929 282266 or Sue Dawson on 01909 486821.
