7th Retford (St Swithun’s) Scout Group

During the summer holidays, 7th Retford Cubs met for a family barbecue, a cycling session, painting ready for their entry in the ‘Ancient’ Ordsall Parish Scarecrow Festival and racing radio control vehicles.

The Scouts got wet playing water games outside at our Scout Headquarters. This involved them working together in teams. Some of the Scouts and an Explorer went on a local hike starting at the canal bridge on Old London Road in Babworth. They walked back to the Scout Hut in Retford.

The final session in the holidays was a photo quiz trail in Retford town centre and Tom, Dexta and Connor came first.
Several Cubs have moved up to join the Scout Troop over the summer and this leaves some space in the Cub section at present. The minimum age is 7 ½ years old up to 10 ½ years old, boys and girls. Two of the older Scouts have also moved up to Explorers, so again there is some capacity in Scouts. You need to be 10 years old to join Scouts and they can stay in this section until they are 14 ½ years old.

The group has said goodbye to a couple of adult volunteers who have headed off to university this September, and has said hello to Charlotte, who has just moved to Retford. Charlotte will be working with the Cub section. They would love to welcome some more adults to the group so please get in touch if you are interested in being an occasional helper or leader, or just to find out more information.

Another erstwhile member has just finished her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, having started her Bronze with Scouting locally. Further afield, a young lady who came to Cubs and Scouts at 7th Retford moved north with her family to the Durham area. Beth, now aged 21, is an Assistant Cub Leader in her local pack, combining it with her university studies.
For any enquiries for a place in the Scout Group, please contact Hazel Newstead, Group Secretary, by email 7thretford@gmail.com or phone 01777 704835.

The group is planning for the Retford Area Scout Christmas Post and more details will be published once they are finalised. They will launch the sale of stamps during the weekend of the Retford Lighting Up Christmas Market, which takes place on Sunday 27th November. The Scouts will be in contact with all the shops who sold special Christmas stamps on their behalf and those who had a Christmas Post box last year. Any questions, please contact Hazel on the details above.
