Beware of coronavirus scams

Following successful, but time limited, Zoom committee meetings, a monthly licence was purchased to enable East Markham WI to organise regular meetings for members. The first being a coffee / sherry afternoon just before Christmas, which was well attended. In January, their second Zoom was a slide presentation of the previous two years’ events followed by a ‘Conversation Starter’ where each member was asked a simple question, with their answer starting a general conversation. read more

Bassetlaw Youth Mayor

Bassetlaw Youth Council’s proposal to have a Youth Mayor was approved by Full Council on 10th December and the election process will commence in March. This ambassador for young people across the district will work closely with the Member of Youth Parliament for Bassetlaw, the Bassetlaw Youth Council and the Charter Mayors in Worksop and Retford, along with the Chairman of the District Council. read more

A return to golf

All golfers are still waiting a return to playing their favourite sport. It is hoped that, as the COVID restrictions are eased, it will be possible to play golf again soon. But whilst golf courses remain closed, what does this mean for Retford Golf Club? As reported last month, the groundsmen continue to keep the course maintained to a high standard, so that as soon as is possible the golfers can return to play. read more

7th Retford continues meeting on Zoom

This term, the Scout section at 7th Retford Scout Group has been looking at the various skills needed to plan an expedition during the Zoom meetings. Navigation skills, kit needed for an expedition and use of various portable stoves have all been looked at so far. As a bit of fun, they made an edible campfire after the resources had been dropped off to them. read more

Our garden hedgehogs

One of our garden visitors we rarely see is the hedgehog. Two reasons for this: being nocturnal they tend to wait till we’ve gone to bed before they venture out and the other, sadly, is the sharp decline in their numbers. This year has been particularly bad for our prickly friends, owing to a parasite, the thorny-headed worm. read more

The Dukeries Singers

The Dukeries Singers

It is now 12 months, or thereabouts, since The Dukeries Singers were last able to meet and sing together. When they had to stop meeting in March 2020, none of the members expected the enforced break to last this long. But, needs must, and now the vaccine roll-out is underway, at least they have a glimmer of light at the end of this long tunnel. read more
