This year’s East Markham Scarecrow Trail, Tabletop and Garage Sales will be on Saturday 12th May. Scarecrows must be within East Markham but viewers from far and wide are very welcome to follow the trail. The first Scarecrow Trail in East Markham was last year and it proved one of the most successful and fun events of the year, so the organisers are hoping to repeat or even improve on that this year. read more

The Retford and District Photographic Society’s 2017 – 2018 season moves towards its conclusion, after a successful year of speakers, competitions and practical opportunities. Members have learned about such diverse photography interests as sport, travel, landscape, underwater and how to better process our images on our home computers. They have enjoyed competitions with fellow photographic clubs and displayed their work in Bakewell, Lincoln and the Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford. read more

Well, I cannot believe it! I sit by the radiator as I write because we have snow outdoors again. I sincerely hope we are all warmer by the time you are reading this. In a rare burst of enthusiasm, I retrieved the propagator from the shed and sowed lots of seeds and now I have to move them on and the path is too slippery for me to access the greenhouse. read more

On Wednesday 11th April, president Carol Portas welcomed members to the April meeting of Retford Ladies Probus, followed by the introduction of the speaker Douglas Bradbury. On learning he had spent his working life as a farrier I wondered if this would be a topic which would interest me personally. Boy was I wrong! He kept us thoroughly entertained from beginning to end with his amusing (and sometimes hairy anecdotes). read more

The enthusiastic ‘self-help’ Wheatley Family Research Group meets in the Village Hall in North Wheatley on the second Wednesday of each month. The format of the meeting is to start with a short presentation about an aspect of family history research followed by some interesting discussion. The rest of the time is used for people to do their own research using the connection to the internet which is available at the village hall. read more
