Retford Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s annual Tim Bowles Walk, organised in conjunction with the NWT Retford Local Group, takes place on Sunday 3rd June at the Clarborough Nature Reserve at 2.00pm. The reserve comprises one of the best examples of calcareous grassland in Nottinghamshire, containing such characteristic plants as cowslip, bird’s-foot-trefoil, wild carrot, knapweed, oxeye daisy and several species of orchid, many of which will be in flower at the time of the walk. read more

Villages preparing for the annual invasion

Ranskill and Torworth Scarecrow and Village Festival

The villages of Ranskill and Torworth are once again preparing for the annual invasion of scarecrows. The annual Ranskill and Torworth Village and Scarecrow Festival takes place over the weekend of 9th and 10th June, with around 100 scarecrows expected to be on display around the two villages and a full programme of events planned — in Ranskill on the Saturday and in Torworth on the Sunday. The scarecrows, however, will be on display in both villages all weekend. read more

Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy

Budding martial artist Miss Cofei Hallam has shown pure talent by achieving her black belt 1st Dan with Master Andrew Blinston at Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy. Cofei, aged 15 and from Worksop, had six years of martial arts experience prior to joining Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy in Retford, however three years down the line she has shown herself to be a start in the scholarship instructor training program conducted at the Lynx educational centre. She is working closely alongside the team and growing in character and confidence each day. read more

Headon Village Hall Charity Horse Racing Evening

Headon Village Hall

Headon Village Hall Productions presents a Charity Horse Racing Evening to raise funds for Cancer Research on Saturday 2nd June. The first race will be at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10.00 per person/jockey which also includes pie and peas. If your company or team wishes to sponsor one of the races, then it is £20.00. Bridge players of all levels of experience are invited to Retford Bridge Club on Tuesday 29th May for a relaxed game of duplicate bridge. A limited number of hands will be played and there will be a coffee break of about 15 minutes. No partner is required as one will be found on the evening if you come alone. If you play with the U3A on Monday afternoons, then you are more than welcome to come and experience duplicate bridge. read more
