Bassetlaw Twinning Association is an active organisation which promotes exchanges between the twin towns of Bassetlaw and towns in Europe and the USA. Our twin towns are Garbsen and Pfungstadt in Germany, Aurillac in France and Farmers Branch in USA. read more

Authors Club at the Barristers Book Chamber

The Barristers Book Chamber

The Barristers Book Chamber is looking for published authors to join their new ‘Published Authors Club’. Free membership is open to anyone locally who has had a book or books traditionally or self-published.  They are looking to promote local authors by holding monthly meetings, and promoting their works. Authors will have the opportunity of seeing their work displayed, and organising regular book signing days. read more

Retford Rotary Club

Retford Rotary Club

Easter, being at the start of April, meant that there was no Rotary club meeting on Monday 2nd. This gave members a well-earned rest before yet another busy month for the club. The following Monday, Rotarian Jack Anderson was able to close the very successful Idle Valley Boardwalk project when he presented the final cheque of £10,000 to Graham Bowden, Head Warden of the Idle Valley Notts Wildlife Trust. read more

Premier Gold for Morton Nurseries

Morton Nurseries, Mansfield Road, Morton near Retford, is celebrating after winning a top Premier Gold Award at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show. The judges were wowed by the display of colourful and unusual plant material (all available at the nursery) galvanised accessories and a wire cat and dog. read more

Royal British Legion Retford and District Branch

Royal British Legion Retford and District Branch

2018 is already proving to be a busy year for the local branch of The Royal British Legion. Fifty entries have been received for the commemoration wall hanging and this is now being assembled ready for the presentation to Bassetlaw Museum in October. As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, which in effect brought WWI to an end (although the Peace Treaty was not signed until the following year), it is expected that there will be added interest in the events leading up to 11th November. read more

Salvation Army

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army at Worksop have now started holding a Praise Meeting on the fourth Sunday evening of each month at 5.00pm at the Wellspring Retford. This building is in the carpark of the Well Church on Hospital Road.

Hid songbird accompanist Lynn has a strong resonant and sweet voice, singing her own compositions, Northumbrian specials through to the blues and old country classics. read more

Retford Bridge Club

Retford Bridge Club

Bridge players of all levels of experience are invited to Retford Bridge Club on Tuesday 26th June for a relaxed game of duplicate bridge. A limited number of hands will be played and there will be a coffee break of about 15 minutes. No partner is required as one will be found on the evening if you come alone. If you play with the U3A on Monday afternoons, then you are more than welcome to come and experience duplicate bridge. read more
