Retford Lions Club has presented £200-worth of tools and gardening equipment to the Rufford Avenue Allotment Group.
It’s the latest boost to the group, a community allotment resource to help people in the Ordsall area improve their overall wellbeing. You don’t have to be a keen gardener – there are all sorts of tasks whereby the group could benefit from your skills, energy, and enthusiasm.
They meet every Wednesday from 10.00am to 1.00pm, when their development worker is there to lend a hand and give support in looking for funding, promoting the group in the locality and giving pointers for the future. They aim to become a self-sustaining community group where people can go and socialise, increase their skills and knowledge, have fun and get satisfaction from seeing their hard work flourish. Here are a couple of comments from people who have attended the group:
“It has done me a world of good mental health-wise; I’m out more, doing what I need to be doing and without Plot 51 I don’t think it would be possible.”
“I would highly recommend the community allotment project to anyone in the Ordsall / Retford area. I attended with my ten- and five-year-old children last year and they absolutely loved it. They loved the freedom and creativity of planning and deciding what to do with the new space.”
If you would like to attend or know more about the project, please email john.reddish@nottscc.gov.uk or call 0115 804 3551 or 07500 814160.
