The next tour in the Delvers’ summer blue plaque series in Gainsborough takes place on Thursday 4th July at 6.15pm, covering the fascinating Viking Age.

The tour guide for this event is Darron Childs, who has researched and written on this subject for over 30 years. Darron has recently contributed to a podcast on BBC Sounds and Danish TV.

The Delvers are the longest-established local history research group. They are based in Gainsborough and have a wealth of articles and features on their Friends Facebook page. Tickets for the Viking Age tour are available via EventBrite.

One of the Delvers blue plaques which will be covered on the July tour marks Gainsborough’s 40 days as the capital of England. Kind Sweyn of Denmark was crowned King of England on Christmas Day 1013, returning to Gainsborough where he died just 40 days later.
