As winter approaches Lindsey u3a groups are busy making plans for the coming months well into 2025. Look at the ‘Interests Guide’ on their website to see what’s in store. Already, plans are in place for a holiday in July to Newcastle and Northumbria.
The Visits Group is joining a backstage tour of the New Theatre Royal, Lincoln in November and, after enjoying six visits to various local gardens over the summer months, the Garden Group is looking forward to some expert speakers over the winter months and plans for a Christmas lunch in December. The Walking Groups will continue to organise monthly walks, weather permitting. These are just a few examples of what is available.
Lindsey u3a meets at Welton Village Hall, usually on the first Thursday of the month. You are invited with no obligation to one of their meetings. Doors open at 9.45am for tea / coffee followed by a speaker at 10.30am. If you decide to go along for a look, tell someone on reception you are new and a friendly greeter will show you round and answer any questions.
On 7th November, speaker Andy Blow will talk about ‘The Invention of the Tank in Lincoln’. It includes some original film of their testing plus a lot of Lincoln’s social history and family life from over 100 years ago. With the run up to Christmas, Lincolnshire archaeologist and folk musician, Tom Lane, will present a seasonal talk about ‘Christmas Customs’ in December, an interactive talk with music celebrating Lincolnshire customs and traditions.
Lindsey u3a offer various interest groups run by members for members. Visit www.lindseyu3a.org.uk to see if anything appeals to you. u3a members can also join various online talks, workshops and courses. You can find out more from www.u3a.org.uk.
If you can’t go to a general meeting, you could join Lindsey u3a at the ‘Gardeners’ Retreat’ tearoom at Scothern Nurseries for a cuppa and a chat at 10.15am on the fourth Thursday of the month. The next coffee morning will take place on 28th November. Whether you’re a newcomer wanting to know more about Lindsey u3a or if you’re already a member and just fancy a cuppa, maybe a scone and a chat, do go along. Everyone is welcome.
