2018 was a great year for the Kirton in Lindsey in Bloom Group. The town won its category in the North Lincolnshire CPRE (Campaign for the Protection of Rural England) Best Kept Village competition. Village category comes with population size, not designation. They were joint first with Messingham.
In the East Midlands in Bloom competition, a Silver Award was achieved and a special Judges Award was given to Peter Hawes, from Kirton Pottery, for making the plaques for the local Kirton in Bloom competition, which was also successful.
The small organising group is a partnership between town councillors and Kirton in Lindsey Amateur Gardeners members. But more volunteers are needed to keep up the good work.
Regular litter picking events are organised throughout the year. This is in addition to the seasonal planting and gardening activities carried out in the flower beds and planters around the town that the group are responsible for. It also runs the yearly Kirton in Bloom competition, which attracts lots of entries, the plaques referred to above are highly prized. This year for the first time there is going to be a new class for ‘Best Kept Street’.
In order to help raise awareness of the group and encourage more people to get involved in its activities, they will be having a stall at the Daffodil Delight spring flower show on Saturday 6th April in Kirton in Lindsey Town Hall.
