Gainsborough Heritage Association

The Gainsborough Heritage Association is pleased to report another successful year and would like to extend gratitude to all members of the public who have visited and left positive reviews, helping the Association secure five-star ratings on TripAdvisor and earn The Historic Heart Award in 2023 – truly significant achievements.

The Association also wishes to acknowledge its loyal members, who continue to support year after year. As a charity-based organisation, the Association relies heavily on these essential funds, without which it could not continue.

The 30th anniversary celebrations were a success, and the Association looks forward to making the coming year even better, with more exhibitions and new displays from the vast collection of artefacts stored in its archives.

Group visits have become increasingly popular, bringing in much-needed income. If there are any groups, associations, or care homes interested in booking a tailored visit to this fascinating museum, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

The Association also extends its heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers who selflessly give their time to keep the centre running. Without them, it simply would not be possible to continue. Anyone with time to spare who would like to get involved is encouraged to contact the centre for more information.

There is still time to visit the well-stocked gift shop, which offers an array of books, many by talented local authors, tractor coasters in wood and slate, mounted copies of original Marshalls and Roses drawings, Heritage Centre shopping bags, and even the option of a 12-month membership – ideal gifts for that hard-to-buy-for person.

The centre is located in the Old Post Office building on the corner of North Street, DN21 2HS, and covers three floors with disability-friendly facilities, including toilets and a lift.

The cosy café provides light refreshments at reasonable prices, including delicious homemade cakes.

Admission is just £3.00, with free entry for children when accompanied by an adult. Children can also participate in a quiz as they explore, encouraging curiosity and offering a treat at the end – a fun and engaging way to introduce them to Gainsborough’s rich history. Anyone who hasn’t yet visited is encouraged to add it to their list – they won’t be disappointed.

The Gainsborough Heritage Association wishes everyone a very happy festive season and looks forward to welcoming visitors in 2025.
