Gainsborough’s local Food Bank run by the Salvation Army is trying to get ready for an increase in demand during the six-week school holidays.
Currently feeding 200 to 240 people a week, Major Colin Bradshaw says that they can only afford to put £4.85 worth of food in a bag regardless of how many people need feeding, because they are spending £2,500 a month on basic food.
The Food Bank is run by volunteers, so the only cost is buying food. But the impact of the Cost-of-Living Crisis has meant that donations have decreased while demand has increased.
Donations of money (cheques payable to ‘The Salvation Army’) or food can be dropped off on Mondays and Fridays 9.00am to 1.00pm or Sundays 9.30am to 12.00pm, or posted to The Salvation Army, Beaumont Street, Gainsborough DN21 2ER.
