Gainsborough and District u3a’s Buccaneer group has plenty planned during the autumn months. In September a group of over 20 went to the Wilderspin school museum at Barton upon Humber. They were all very enthusiastic about the museum and the classroom experience. One or two, however, didn’t quite come up to the high Victorian standards of behaviour or intelligence!
In October the group went on an ‘Escape Room’ challenge in Lincoln. This involved three groups, one taking on a more challenging experience.
On Wednesday 22nd November, all u3a members have been invited to join the annual Christmas trip and this year they are going to Castle Howard. Most places have been taken, but it may still be possible for members to book a place.
There have been some excellent speakers over the last few months at the Thursday meetings; Chris, the ‘Speaker Finder’, has been doing a first-rate job. In November, the speaker will be Ken Robertson-Scott who will be talking about ‘Great Dramas of Auntie’ – presumably about the BBC!
December will see the Christmas party. This will involve several quizzes, refreshments and entertainment from the new Singing group. The precise details are yet to be fixed, but the singing group did volunteer to provide Christmas songs to which all can sing along.
Entry will be by ticket only, priced £3.00, and these will have to be bought in advance. Tickets will be on sale at the November meeting. Regulars need to be warned that it will start at 10.00am, and there will be no drinks available until about 10.45am.
