Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

The October meeting of Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club, featured Dr Andrew Ward, who delivered a talk on ‘Gardening in a Changing Climate’.

Illustrated with photos, the presentation explored the impacts of global warming, including the devastation it has wrought on humanity and the environment, turning vast areas into deserts and submerging others in water. Dr Ward discussed how trees and plants can contribute to combatting climate change and highlighted a variety of beautiful, interesting, and more unusual plants that can withstand extremes of heat, drought, and wet weather, as well as popular varieties found in many gardens.

The speaker for the next meeting, on Monday 16th December, is Sheila Clark, who will lead a Christmas floral demonstration on creating a Christmas garland for a door. Following her demonstration, Sheila will guide members and visitors in making their own garlands. Sheila is well known for her skill in crafting beautiful floral arrangements.

Due to refurbishment, the December meeting will be held in Walkeringham Village Hall at 7.00pm, rather than in the Recreation Room. Sheila’s demonstrations are very popular, and visitors are welcome. Those interested in attending are encouraged to get in touch to receive a list of materials needed to make a Christmas garland.

Anyone interested in hearing guest speakers is welcome to attend meetings as a visitor, with a charge of £4.00 per session. Annual subscriptions are available at £15.00 per member or £20.00 per family, including refreshments. Regular meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room at 7.30pm.

The club is open to all who have an interest in gardening, the environment, or related topics, and new members or visitors are warmly welcomed.
