Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

October is a busy month for gardeners as they prepare their plants for the colder months ahead. However, with the effects of climate change, winters are not as severe as they once were. While this can benefit gardeners by allowing non-frost-hardy plants to survive, it also has its drawbacks, as the milder weather fails to kill off many pests and diseases.

The speaker at the next meeting of Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club, on Monday 21st October at 7.30pm, will be Dr Andrew Ward, who will be discussing ‘Gardening in a Changing Climate’. Andrew, who trained as a plant breeder, established Norwell Nurseries 24 years ago. His talk will explore the impact of global warming and focus on beautiful, interesting, and unusual plants that thrive in extreme weather conditions, such as heat, drought, and wet.

Non-members interested in attending any of the talks are welcome to join the meetings. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, or there is an annual subscription of £15.00 per member or £20.00 for a family, which includes refreshments. Meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you have an interest in gardening, the environment, or related subjects, consider attending the meetings. The club is small, and visitors or new members will be warmly welcomed.
